UNDER CONSTRUCTION...I NEED TO WORK ON UPDATING NEW WORKS
Welcome to my website. I do not do art shows any longer, as I prefer not to damage years' worth of work either by exposing it to the elements or by cramming it into my car. Please either contact me by email or visit a gallery. Thank you for visiting. To Contact me, email me DIRECTLY at: brucebodden@yahoo.com MAKE SURE TO USE AN ATTENTION GRABBING HEADLINE ON EMAIL! |
Regarding Requesting Any Commission Pieces
I am not accepting any painting commissions right now as they take too long to do, but I may consider doing serigraph commissions. Serigraphs are silk-screen prints done on paper. They are relatively small and are done in a numbered sequence of around 12 to 20, depending on the paper choice and size...so there will be multiples and it will not be the only one done. They usually have around 8 to 12 colors pulled in them to make up the image. Any serigraph inquiry will be accepted only if it is a marketable image in my opinion...as the remainder will be mine and I will have the right to sell them later. I also will only do work in my own style. Any commission order must also be framed by me for the first image purchased. The print numbered #1 of "#?" is for the commissioning party. Multiples of the print may be also purchased. The price for the framed piece and any additional prints will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Email me with any requests at: brucebodden@yahoo.com

Artistic Statement
I was a Fine Arts major at UW-Oshkosh, graduating in 1994, with a double emphasis in Drawing and Applied Design. The mediums in which I mostly work in are oil pastels, acrylics and wood, including marquetry, which I am self taught by looking at books and videos. I also recently got into jewelry, specifically rings and pendants.
My personal style has progressed from merely copying what the eye sees to a harsh and colorful geometric abstraction of a sometimes imagined reality. But the entire picture plane’s design has always been important to me, even in my early work. An object on a plain background always was an annoyance to me. I try to achieve a certain quality of design, no matter what style or medium I am experimenting with. Painting is more than capturing a scene, it is the arrangement of element relationships. Balance, harmony, unity of shape and color and other design attributes are really what my pictures are about visually, not what the object, animal or scene being portrayed is. My art is about the art. So if I do a variation of a painting, it is most likely an effort of changing those elements in some way, thus making to me, an entirely different piece of art. I do many series like this as I explore ideas.
But my personal style also has great meaning to me. I sometimes used to refer to my style as "Geometric Simplification"...but I recently decided to call my style "Claritysm" as my style is a direct opposite reaction to unclear things that truly annoy and frustrate me or cause me grief. With my art, I try to provide for others the things that I wish would be provided for me...as if I am trying to follow The Golden Rule with my artwork..."Do unto others as you wish they would do to unto you."
So with my art and with every other form of communication, I try to pin reality down in a very clear, bold and concrete way so there is no room for error or foggy areas...confirm-able, undeniable and reassuring. The purpose of communicating is to get things through, not to be reckless and just say that you tried. If it doesn't get through, then there was really no communication. My art is illuminating and often provides a full spectrum and complete tonal range. Also, with my art, I try to portray things in a simplified fashion, with things broken down into simple shapes and simplified colors...with the care and time to do it right so it can be fully appreciated and easily understood. I try to make art that grabs your attention and is in perfect focus. I also try to lighten the viewer’s mood with my fun colorful art. If I can make art that is extremely beautiful and impossible to not smile at when seeing it, then I feel that I have achieved something. My art is happy and uplifting... I do not want to bring anybody's mood down with my art.
So as you can see, my art tries to provide what I have trouble finding in my own life. You could say that my art imitates what life wants to be. I hope that my art can make your life better as well. Thank you for enjoying my work.
I currently display at:
The Harp Gallery Of Antiques in Appleton, Wisconsin...and
